The government has named 36 rural councils that will share a new £1m fund to help develop and plan up to 10,000 new homes.
The £1m fund jointly provided by Communities and Local Government and Defra will provide expert assistance and training on masterplanning and urban design. The South East councils that have been successful are receiving funds ranging from £4,000 to £50,000 to support work on projects, including:
- Shepway District Council - strategic master planning within the Sellindge area and quality development project
- Isle of Wight Council - Rural Housing sites Toolkit
- East Hampshire District Council - Quality places guidance and disemination
- South Oxfordshire Dirstrict Council and Vale of the White Horse District Council - Master plan for former Grove Airfield
- Winchester City Council and East Hampshire District Council - Assessment Framework for rural development
- Milton Keynes Council - Leadership capability and capacity building
